What is Concussion Baseline Testing?

Concussion Baseline Testing is used to evaluate an individual’s brain functioning when healthy prior to injury. It is conducted before experiencing concussion. Although most anyone can benefit from Concussion Baseline Testing, it is typically used for athletes of all competitive levels.

After experiencing an injury or event associated with possible concussion the individual is retested. These results are compared with the results from baseline testing and used to support diagnosis of concussion and assess symptom severity. After diagnosis of concussion, testing is an important part of monitoring progress and determining when an athlete is ready to return to practice and competition. This is important to preventing long term damage that can result from re-injury after returning too soon to athletic participation.
