QEEG Neurofeedback Assessment

What is a QEEG Neurofeedback Assessment?

Prior to starting neurofeedback, clients participate in a Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) assessment also known more simply as a “brain map.” This brain mapping process involves wearing sensors that measure electrical brainwave activity. These patterns of activity are then assessed using sophisticated computer technology that identifies brain regions and activity patterns associated with certain neurological conditions (e.g. traumatic brain injury) as well as cognitive, emotional, and behavioral correlates of many mental health disorders (e.g. anxiety, depression, ADHD).

During this assessment, the psychologist will start by getting to the client and briefly discussing health-related history. After this interview, the client is fitted with device that looks similar to a swim cap and is able to measure brainwave activity. The client will sit in a comfortable, reclined chair for approximately 20 minutes and all the sensors to record information about the brain. This information allows us to see how the brain is working and different areas of overactive or underactive activity.

Stigma and Mental Illness

Mental illness impacts 1 in 4 American adults each year, yet many go undiagnosed.

What can we do to help ourselves, our family, friends, neighbors, and society writ large feel supported and relieve the societal pressure to hide mental illness?

Side Effects to Neurofeedback?

As a general rule, most neurofeedback patients experience little or no adverse effects. In fact, many find the sessions relaxing and calming.

Neurofeedback is based on the premise that patients, guided by providers, can retrain their brains.
