Chicago Mind Solutions is passionate about treating patients who have suffered concussions and traumatic brain injury (TBI). We’ve written about the devastating symptoms of these conditions and the disruptions they cause to quality of life. The incidence of concussions and TBI among NFL athletes is well-documented, and the healthcare field continues to research its short and long-term effects.
We jump at the chance to raise awareness, and we had the opportunity to do so at the 22nd Annual Celebrity Golf Outing held by The Retired Professional Football Players of Chicago (RPFPC) last month at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.
What is RPFPC?
The RPFPC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2003 and founded by former professional football players who support Chicagoland causes and charities. RPFPC is the charitable arm of the NFL Players Association and strives to raise money for academic scholarships and football equipment for local youth.
Who’s Made Appearances?
A who’s who of former NFL players have participated in the outing, including:
- Dan Hampton – Chicago Bears (Hall of Fame)
- Ted Hendricks – Oakland Raiders (Hall of Fame)
- Steve McMichael – Chicago Bears (1985 Super Bowl Champion)
- Otis Wilson – Chicago Bears (1985 Super Bowl Champion)
Not to be outdone, retired Chicago Bulls champions Bill Cartwright and Cliff Levingston have also appeared.
Our Involvement
Chicago Mind Solutions had the honor of sponsoring a hole on the golf course, where we offered resources and discussions on post-concussion care, as well as free brain maps to assess current states of cognitive functioning.
Our approach to post-concussion care is two-pronged. Treatments include neurofeedback which utilizes cutting edge technology to enhance concentration, decision-making, emotional regulation, sleep problems, and difficulties with motivation, among other symptoms. We also provide Cognitive Rehabilitation and Psychotherapy treatments to strengthen and restore functional behaviors.
We are grateful to play a role in the mission of the RPFPC and to provide education about our treatment services for these conditions.
